This is it... the first shot, still at the shop.

It's swollen and shiny with goo and ooze, and the colors will settle a little differently while it heals. But this is the general idea.

Seriously. Its crazy pants on the Quarter side of the city. ALL DAY. The game starts in about an hour and a half so it'll calm down out in the streets but there's people everywhere. My customers kept coming in and saying it was like Mardi Gras on Canal Street.

Its an infectious awesomesauce feeling outside!

So I finally got my color filled in on my tattoo. It took FOUR HOURS. And I cried right around the 2:45 mark (in all fairness, it was a very sensitive and highly detailed area). Which embarrassed the crap out of me.
I spent the next hour+ trying to disassociate myself from it by thinking about the crazy shit that girl in Martyrs went through. (If you have not seen the movie Martyrs, DO SO ASAP. It's freaking AMAZING: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029234/ ... by far the best movie I saw this year.)

Anyway. I also threatened to punch Scott in the face at one point.

So yeah, this is my first tattoo that caused me to shed a few tears (maybe three) and threaten my tattoo artist with physical harm. And it still hurts like a motherfucker.

And I can't wait for the swelling and oozing to stop so I can get a really good look at it.

But I already know I LOVE IT.

OMG. I got the most awesome Xmas card from bindaroonie this week!!!!! THANK YOU!!!! You are so awesome that I'm hiding in your garbage bin right now looking for dna samples for cloning. I promise my cards will actually get out by Monday latest. So, there's still time if you want on that list. I really tried to get them done today but work was just too busy.

So You Think You Can Dance finished up tonight and I can live with the winner. Not my personal favorite, that was #3 but, still great. Though the reaction to winning was a bit.. hmm..douchey? It was weird.

I think Dollhouse is the only thing left with eps to air, right? They're playing out the rest of the episodes and that's the end of the show period. Its a shame that Whedon didn't really get to tell the story he set out to. I wish Fox hadn't meddled with those first few episodes. On the other hand, I'm not sure that people would've taken a shine to a high concept show about the nature vs science of raw sexuality and personality and what exactly makes a "soul". Who knows? Either way, that show has gone awesomesauce crazy pants in these last few episodes. I would love to see this story get continued in graphic novel form perhaps.

Glee finished the season in quite a satisfying way. Thank god for the end of the fake baby storyline which was mostly obnoxious. I think they wrapped it up in a way that finally got Mr. Shu and Will angry at decisions that were taken away from them but hopeful for the future. Not to mention the awesome musical aspect to it. How did I end up loving a show that is partly a musical? I hate most musicals. I think part of the key to Glee is they picked the greatest sing along songs of all time to perform pretty much every episode.

Supernatural left me heartbroken for two fallen soldiers and fearful for the remaining characters who I've become so invested in. Dean Winchester has become one of my favorite characters of all time. His journey from Season 1's happy little soldier to Season 5's General of the people has been wrenching and amazing. Sam Winchester's journey from pilot episode's self-assured young man to last season's broken, suicidal boy was terrifying to watch. This season he has gone from beating himself for his mistakes to accepting them and becoming (at least partially) a self-assured adult man. I cannot wait to see how this story finishes for them. As for whether or not this is the last season...I feel like this is something that they will hold very close until the last minute. If we find out there's a season 6 now, well that will take a lot of the tension and fear out of the end of this season, won't it? So, will Lucifer and Michael get Sam and Dean to say yes for the Final Battle to ensue? Or will Humanity win over everything? I personally hope that Dean finds a way to slay Lucifer without going all Michael!Dean. But, I'd also really, really love to see Ackles play Michael. I'm unspoiled for the second half so I have no idea, but I"m hoping for an episode similar to "The End's flashforward for Sam where he gets to see Michael!Dean. Have we come up with a name for that yet? Lucifer/Sam is Samifer. So...Mean? or Dichael? Dickel? It doesn't really work does it....

Wow, I suck at keeping up this week. I'm days behind. I'm skipping two and moving on to these:

World War Z
Not only is this an awesome Zombie apocalypse story but its an amazing story about humanity. The parallels to global crises facing us today are fairly easy to discern but the story doesn't get lost in preachiness but rather focuses on the individual fighting to keep their own lives intact. The amount of research that Max Brooks clearly put into on the psychology of warfare, emergency preparedness/planning on country wide level and the politics and economics of varying country is staggering as well.

If you are a storyteller or if you just have a passion for stories, no matter the medium, then you need to read this. There's a 99% chance Campbell's work on mythology and the story arcs that connect us all through civilization is admired and cited by every author or screenwriter that you love. Especially if you love Supernatural, Star Wars, Buffy, Battlestar, or really anything.

I worked late tonight and my volunteer for the museum for the evening was a volunteer I had not met but heard was pretty cool. And she was and we started chatting. She's awesome, 42, lives between L.A. and New Orleans with her husband, works for some production companies for commercials etc etc. We started talking about tv and production in Vancouver and Louisiana and then this:
Me: My favorite show films up there and blahblah crew is awesome blahblah.
Her: (almost interrupting me) What show?!
Me: Supernatural
Her: OMG That's my favorite show ever!
So, I love her now.

Then I went to the gym and SPN was on the tv.. yay Thursday!

I am spending this week in my closed library, packing the whole place up, in hopes that renovations and repairs will happen soon.


Just in case you didn't know, there are a FUCKLOAD of books in a library. And you need a lot of freaking boxes to put them in.

Day 07 → A photo that makes you happy

I couldn't pick just one. So, I picked one from four things that always make me happy: Halloween, Mardi Gras, A random bar night with my polaroid, a "field trip" outing with friends (this one at the race track). The most important element being crazy friends.

Due to holidays I'm working an extra day a week. Boo! I mean, its good that I'm needed but my body is going to be mad tomorrow morning. I like having 3 days a week at home to do nothing really at all. I'm so productive! I finish video games and go to the gym for 2 hours and saunter down the street for coffee and work really hard at bad photo manips for my polygamist cult.

Yes, I realize no one is feeling sympathy for me right now. Keep in mind I'm working late hours a few nights too. Its a lot. And its not for monies, its for "comp time" which due to the busy-ness of my job I can't use until April anyway.

On another note, the cardio portion of my workout was much easier to get through with some SPN on my ipod. Its The Fast & The Furious effect. At my old gym there was tv at every piece of equipment. I once spent 90 minutes on a stationery bike just to watch hot guys drive fast cars. And its very important that I spend 2 hours a day at the gym right now. That medication snafu this fall did not help with my getting back into shape agenda. I need to get back into Pre-Katrina/Pre-party every day social butterfly shape. I miss how in shape (and yet beat up) I was from kickboxing class. Ahhh pinched nerves and bruises...I miss you. Once my stamina gets back up I shall see you again.

Much like the summer haitis, I'm trying to remain totally spoiler free for winter hellatus. I've seen a few things here and there (episode titles, some possible characters and the promo for 5x11) but other than that, I don't want to know anything. So, I'm avoiding those discussions. I like being super surprised by every tiny thing. Especially since I'm so obsessed with storytelling that even the tiniest detail usually has me figuring out what's going to happen.
